Scots Bill: MP reveals tactics. Ian Dunn
Robin Cook speaking at SMG Edinburgh, said he would do all in his power to prevent the re-enactment of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 1885 into the 1976 Bill which the Government are putting through Parliament. He will try to generate debate on the crassness of the Bill's clauses. About 25 MPs and Lord Boothby have written to SMG, many saying they are in support of SMGs recommendations.
SMG buys centre in Glasgow from Ian Dunn
Shiela MacAskill and the Glasgow Branch have bees successful in their search for premeses for the group. At a special General Meeting on 21 September [1976] members voted unanimously to purchase property at the west end of Sauchiehall Street. The building which lies behind the Charing Cross Hotel, was once occupied by the Scottish Youth Hostels Association.
The presises, which costs £8,000, will prove a great challenge to gay men and women in Glasgow. The SMG Group will have to raise a healthy weekly income from discos and other activities to help finance the venture. With this in mind, SMG recently spend £600 buying a superb disco and lights, and the equipment was greeted with acclaim at the recent Forum in Stirling.
Shiela is delighted that her full-time work has brought such early results. Her task completed, she has resigned her salaried position and has resumed her voluntary work for the group.
