Letter of objection Woodland residents Association.
Daily Record Thu 28 Aug 1980 p15 [top right]:

Victory..but Gay Club stays dry - "Sheriff yesterday rejected claim that giving a homosexual club a drinks licence would morally endanger the public. But he REFUSED to grant the clu a licence-because the application had been made when the club had not been properly formed.
Members of the Royal Institute for the War Blinded had objected to the licence bing given to the Glasgow brach of the Scottish Homosexual Rights Group.
The gay club, at 4 Queen's Crescent, Woodside, is next door to the ex-soldiers premises.
Another 700 locals and a chief constable also objected.
Glasgow Sheriff Court was told that drink was likely to lead to an increase in homosexual activities, presently contrary to Scots Law.
And the club would probably have males who had broken the law and who would be likely to make sex advances to people near the club.
Tensions
But club secretary Dr. Malcom Crowe, a computer lecturer, and Dr. Keith Wardrop, a forensic psychiatrist who is president of the national group, both denied this.
Dr. Wardrop said the effect of alcohol might well reduce tensions and the urege to carry out homosexual acts.
Sheriff John Mowat said the law regarding homosexuality in Scotland was about to be altered.
On the evidence, he could not hold there was any more danger to the public from the gay club than from an ordinary club.
